A relative newcomer to the Portland scene, Ginkgo has wasted no time building a community of DJs, artists, and dancers aiming for nothing less than the elevation of dancefloor culture. Believe You Me, the new deep house monthly party he founded with partner Andy Warren, has been welcomed with enthusiasm by ecstatic dancers, Burners, and old-school house heads alike.
Musically, Ginkgo’s take on house music calls for many adjectives: melodic, tribal, melancholic, dreamy, uplifting, psychedelic, global, playful, devastating. Sunrise sets are a specialty, when Ginkgo uses heart-melting tracks to dissolve boundaries and put smiles on the faces.
Robert Ginkgo cut his teeth in the small but thriving Philadelphia Burner scene; he fell in love with house music at the first PEX warehouse party he attended, and with his fiancee, Melinda, at the second. Rather than waiting to be booked, Ginkgo started his own party in a massive yoga studio, and in the process discovered his passion for creating dance spaces that evade the darkness of the club scene and invite everyone to feel safe. He maintains an active schedule on the Playa and at regional burns and smaller festivals on both coasts.
